Your First Step: The Adapter

If you own a Mitsubishi 2009 3D Ready DLP model then read everything on this page…you’re about to discover how you can watch 3D content on your television.

Keep in mind Mitsubishi was one of the first companies to build 3D TVs… before much 3D content was available. The format they chose to use for processing 3D content was called “checkerboard” and this was fine until 3D content makers like the movie industry, cable networks, and Blu-ray player manufacturers discovered “checkerboard” chewed up too much bandwidth. Those companies opted for alternative methods – most commonly Top & Bottom, and Side-by-Side.

What does this mean to you?

It means you have to convert the 3D content from the other methods into “checkerboard”. This requires an adapter called the 3DA-1. The only other method to work around the adapter is to use certain Panasonic Blu-ray players, those models are: DMP-BDT100, DMP-BDT110, DMP-BDT210, DMP-BDT215, DMP-BDT220, DMP-BDT300, DMP-BDT310, DMP-BDT321, and the DMP-BDT350 (discontinued). Once you have your 3D content coming into your Mitsubishi TV in the required “checkerboard” format the next step is selecting 3D glasses.

3DA-1 Adapter

Your Second Step: Selecting Your 3D Glasses

Once you have 3D content coming into your DLP 3D Ready HDTV in the necessary “checkerboard” format with either the 3DA-1 adapter or by using one of the Panasonic 3D Blu-ray players mentioned above, you will then need to invest in top quality compatible 3D Glasses.

You currently have 2 options:

  1. DLP 3D Glasses or
  2. IR 3D Glasses

Here’s the difference.

Infrared 3D glasses use IR signal to connect the television to your glasses, it’s the same way your remote control connects to your television. IR has it’s advantages, the IR signal can be picked up by the glasses even when your head is turned and you can still receive the signal in rooms with bright lighting.

DLP 3D Glasses use flashes of light to connect the television to the 3D glasses and are perfect for DLP television owners that don’t want to set up an IR emitter which is required for IR signals. Click Here to see our DLP 3D Glasses, otherwise read on for more about IR.

Your Final Step: The IR Emitter

When using IR Glasses with Mitsubishi TVs made in 2009 and prior, you will need an IR emitter (different than the adapter mentioned above). This IR emitter is what will allow your IR 3D Glasses to sync or “connect” your Mitsubishi 3D TV.

We recommend you go with our High Power IR Emitter, or if you want you can settle for the Mitsubishi factory IR emitter that comes in the 3DC-1000 Kit. This second option requires you to buy an adapter and 2 pairs of glasses.

It is also very expensive and can be difficult to find in stock at times.

In addition…our emitter is much stronger, so you will not lose sync, which sometimes happens with the Mitsubishi emitter.

Your First Step: The Adapter

If you own a Mitsubishi 2010 3D Ready DLP model then read everything on this page…you’re about to discover how you can watch 3D content on your television.

In 2010 Mitsubishi made some changes to their DLP 3D TVs and some models (738 and 838 series) offer the opportunity to do a firmware upgrade so you didn’t have to purchase an adapter to convert the 3D content into the checkerboard format that Mitsubishi DLP 3D TVs require (please contact Mitsubishi for instructions). However, as the other models (638, C10 and L75-A91 series) did not have this firmware upgrade option, they still require an adapter called the 3DA-1 (available on Amazon).

Choosing an IR Emitter

Ever since 2011, Mitsubishi added a built in IR emitter for certain models, in addition to an internal adapter. The 2011 models that DO NOT have the built in emitter are the 640, C11, CB1, 642, and 842 series. If your Mitsubishi 3D TV is one of those models, you will still need an IR Emitter to use IR 3D Glasses.

We recommend you go with our High Power IR Emitter in both cases. There are still two things to consider about Mitsubishi’s built in IR emitters.

  1. The built in IR emitter uses a different syncing format than their original external emitter, so you can not use their old model Mitsubishi 3D Glasses
  2. The built in IR emitter is also much weaker, with a limited range and field of view

Because of the reasons stated above, we recommend you go with our High Power IR Emitter since our emitter is much stronger than the internal IR emitter. You can sit where you want and not lose sync like the internal Mitsubishi emitter can.
