“National Geographic to Stream 3D Content”

Until 2012, 3D TV content outside of movies has been fairly limited on the TV. This year, though, it seems to have grown in a number of ways. More games, more channels, and all of it better content as worthwhile providers become more and more interested in 3D. This year marked the first Olympic Games being broadcast in 3D, and now look who else wants a slice of the pie!

Sensio and National Geographic team up for 3D with 3DGO!

SENSIO Technologies has announced an agreement with National Geographic Cinema Ventures over 3D content that will be accessible for on-demand rental on 3DGO!. Available in the Fall of 2012 across the US, 3DGO! is the first dedicated 3D transactional VOD service that will offer the largest selection of high-quality 3D content – such as Hollywood blockbusters, must-see documentaries, and exclusive live events – to consumers whose 3DTVs support SENSIO 3D technology.

National Geographic is one of the largest scientific and educational institutions in the world, as well as a pioneer and an important player in movie and TV industry that reaches more than 435 million households in 37 languages in 173 countries.

“We are pleased by this association with a pioneer in the 3D industry, and to have the opportunity to make our 3D content available to consumers through this unique high-quality 3D platform”, said Lisa Truitt, President at National Geographic Cinema Ventures. “This is an exciting time for 3D and consumers are craving for more content to watch at home. We believe 3DGO! will be greatly attractive for consumers looking for high-quality 3D content, and we are thrilled to be taking part of it.”

3DGO! uses the award-winning SENSIO® Hi-Fi 3D technology, a frame-compatible technology providing high-fidelity stereoscopic images using conventional 2D channels. After installing the application on a connected 3DTV, consumers will simply need to select the 3DGO! service to immediately start enjoying 3D content. The transactional model will offer consumers instant and easy access to a wide 3D library, which SENSIO commits to continue to develop. Neither subscription nor additional equipment is required.
